Benbradagh  Private Residential care home is located on the southern edge of Upperlands. It is approached by a long private driveway. Upperlands is located in the district of Magherafelt in county L'Derry. It is approximately two and a half miles north of Maghera, 17 miles south of Coleraine, 28 miles south-east of L'Derry and approximately 35 miles north-west of Belfast. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The home has a very pleasent setting, surrounded by open countryside and woodland with adequate parking is available within the homes own grounds. Benbradagh care home is registered for 22 residents. The bedrooms are situated on the ground and first floors. There are 16 single bedrooms and three twin bedrooms. 8 of our bedrooms have en suite facilities, which include a toilet and a bath or shower. All rooms are nicely decorated and fully furnished, however we do encourage Residents to bring in smaller articles of their furniture, a television, pictures and ornaments to personalise their room. The communal areas include 2 lounges, a dining room, four toilets and two bathrooms on the ground floor, and one bathroom, hairdresser room and two toilets on the first floor.

 

Externally there are extensive gardens surrounding the 'home', including a patio and apple orchard.

Qualifcations & Experience 

 

Mr C.Ramrachia is a qualified RGN Level 2 (Psychiatry). He has over 30 years' experience in the 'care sector' and was employed as a manager running homes for the county council from 1984-1993. He has worked as a social worker and senior social worker for 12 years incorporating roles and duties of a practice Teacher and Approved social Worker Assessor. 

 

Mrs S.Ramrachia is a Registered General Nurse Level 1 with 27 years' experience of working as a ward sister, clinical teacher, macmillan oncology nurse specialist and lead cancer nurse for cancer services. 

 

The home currently employs 20 staff, 7 of whom are full time the remainder part time. There is an Asisstant Manager who holds a BA Hons in health & social care and has 3 years' experience working within the care sector. One member of our domestic staff completed NVQ level 2 in hospitality. Other staff have a number of years' experience in care settings. All care staff have their NVQ Level 2 and recieve annual training through EVO learning which started this year in March 2015.  We have completed moving and handling faciliated via the trainer from EVO-Learning and Fire Prevention & Evacuation through Neil Rea which is completed twice a year. 

 

The home will be looked upon as our residents' home and the care provied will be of the highest standard and in consultaion with residents' views, wishes and perferences. 

 

Our aims 

We aim to provide personal care to elderly people of both sexes, over the age of 65 providing longer term and respite care.

 

At Benbradagh care home we are committed to providing a secure, happy and comfortable environment, promoting a high standard of care and understanding of individual's needs. We offer as much support as required, whilst maintaining respect for privacy at all times, and helping to maintain personal dignity and independence wherever possible. 

 

To foster an atmosphere of care and support which both enables and ecourages our residents to live as full, interesting and an independent lifestyle as possible with rules and regulations being kept to a minumum.

  • The operation of an effective care planning system

 

Our home will involve residents in the planning and review of the services that are provided for them to ensure that their needs are met. This is achieved by:

  • Planned, structured menus which include Resident's wishes, choices and perferences

  • Menus which are nutritionally balanced

  • Menus which allow Residents to change their food choices

 

Our home will ensure that Residents are fully informed about all matters which might affect their well being. This acheieved by: 

  • Case manager support

  • Provision of notice board or other displays, which inform Residents. 

 

Our home will offer a range of social activities, which meet the needs of the resident. This is achieved by:

  • Ensuring that activities are offered to each resident which are appropiate to their needs, abilities or expressed wishes

  • Ensuring that the home considers their social, spiritual, cultural, emotional and physical needs in the service it offers to residents 

  • Ensuring that residents feels comfortable to decline any or all of the activities offered by the home
